About the Database

Welcome to AusGeoRef, a subset of the GeoRef database established by the American Geosciences Institute and updated weekly in cooperation with Geoscience Australia. This database provides access to publications about Australia and includes references to the Australian literature published since 1933. The database contains more than 65,000 references. Since 2003, the American Geosciences Institute has worked with Geoscience Australia to cover the Australian geoscience literature including references to journal articles, books, reports and maps.

The database includes complete bibliographic references and index terms drawn from the GeoRef Thesaurus. Reports with chapters by different authors have complete references for each chapter. The sheet size, scale, and latitude and longitude are given for maps. Each reference averages more than 13 index terms, and some references have abstracts.

Publications that exist in electronic form at the time of announcement can be displayed by clicking on the 'Text Online' button that appears above references.

You have two search options: Basic and Advanced. Basic Search allows you to search for any word or combination of words within a reference. Advanced Search allows you to search both for any word or combination of words within a reference as well as by specific fields including author, title, source, publication date, index terms, abstract text, etc.
